Kakopetria is built 700 metres above the sea in the Solea valley area of the Troodos Mountains and is a popular summer resort and a rich fruit-growing village.

Kakopetria is divided into two parts; the original, medieval settlement which is situated on the east bank of the river Karkotis and the modern resort with shops, cafés, banks and even a public swimming pool. There are numerous ancient churches in the area, and the famous Kykkos monastery is only 30km away.

The population is roughly 2000, and it is 50km from both Nicosia and Limassol, and only 15km from Mount Olympus, the highest point in Cyprus.
